Careers at IPMF
Independence Public Media Foundation (IPMF) is a private foundation focused on moving resources within the Philadelphia region toward community-owned media and internet, and catalyzing movements for justice through narratives that educate, inspire, and encourage action toward a more liberatory future. We are driven by a set of core values—Courage, Equity, Justice, Belonging, and Joy—that shape how we approach our work, how we partner with others, and how we contribute to the world around us.

Our Hiring Process
We use a hiring approach that is intended to reduce bias and promote equity. When we have a job opening at IPMF, here’s what you can expect:
- A description of the job, the skills and experience we are looking for, and the salary range are included in the job posting.
- We do not require a cover letter with our job applications, but if you have anything you'd especially like to tell us, you can feel free to submit one. Instead of a cover letter, we ask 4-5 short screening questions that can give us information that we may not be able to glean from a resume or cover letter.
- We use an accessible Applicant Tracking System called Workable to collect your resume and application materials. When the job has closed, your information will be deleted from the system unless you give us express permission to keep it in our database.
- When the deadline to apply has passed, the staff reviews applications with the help of a consultant, and invites selected candidates to a phone conversation with the consultant. The consultant will then recommend a short list of candidates to interview with staff. We do not begin interviews prior to the deadline to apply.
- We will review all applications and respond to all applicants, though depending on the volume of resumes we receive, it may take us a little longer than we'd like to respond to everyone.
If you are invited to an interview with staff, here’s what you can expect:
- First round interviews typically last an hour, and some members of our team will be present.
- We strive to offer interview times that work with the candidates' schedules, including evenings.
- We will share an overview ahead of your interview outlining the kinds of questions you can expect to be asked.
- We ask every candidate the same list of questions in first round interviews.
- Each interviewer makes notes after each interview which then gets shared with the full team and the consultant.
- We will dedicate time at the end of each interview for you to ask us questions, while also striving to create a conversation where candidates can ask questions throughout the interview.
- After the first-round interview, candidates may be asked to complete a job-related exercise and/or provide a writing sample depending on the needs of the position. If you are asked to do this, we will provide a stipend out of respect for your time. We will not use your work product outside of the hiring process.
- Selected candidates will be invited to a second-round interview within two weeks after the first round is complete. Candidates not moving on will be notified as early as possible.
- The second interview will be more conversational, giving candidates space to engage in a deeper dialogue with staff about their experience, perspectives, and fit for the role.
- We will narrow finalists down to two to three candidates and check references before making a final decision.
- We will contact all finalists within two weeks of completing the final interview round.
- If you would like to request accommodations to make the job interview process more accessible, please email our consulting firm at rachel@workinprogressconsulting.net with the job title and the words "Accommodations Request" in the subject line.
