The Independence Public Media Foundation is Pleased to Announce Two Additions to its Staff

Chris and Karla headshots

Chris Capato, Finance Director

Chris joins Independence Public Media Foundation with over ten years of experience in finance and administration of non-profit organizations in public media, education equity and women's healthcare. Prior to that, he has spent nearly twenty years in the administration, compliance and investment of pension and endowment funds in bank trust departments and accounting/consulting firms. His volunteer efforts are focused on social justice, LGBTQIA+ and community development. He earned a Bachelor of Economics from Maryville College in Tennessee.

Karla Jimenez-Magdaleno, Program Associate

Karla is an award-winning creative organizer who co-creates projects with community members to push for social change. They've worked over the years in emerging risk response, affordable housing and eviction prevention, and communication science. Most recently, Karla served as field director for State Representative Rick Krajewski's successful re-election campaign. As an immigrant, Karla has lived in many places—Venezuela, Miami, North Carolina, Texas, Seattle—and has learned and shared lessons from community leaders along the way. Karla is thrilled to finally settle and call Philadelphia home. In their spare time, Karla loves writing screenplays with their brother, experimental cooking with friends, playing pickup sports, being a Mighty Writers mentor, and trying to make sense of quarks and spacetime.
