Dr. Clemencia Rodríguez is a professor and the director of Temple University's Master of Science in Communication for Development and Social Change. Her research centers on communication as a form of political agency in marginalized communities in the Global South. In her book Fissures in the Mediascape: An International Study of Citizens’ Media (2001), Rodríguez developed "citizens' media theory," a groundbreaking approach to understanding the role of community/alternative media in social change processes. In 2011, after conducting field work in war affected regions of Colombia, she published Citizens' Media Against Armed Conflict, which investigates the potential of citizens’ media to shield communities from the negative impacts of armed violence. She teaches in the areas of communication for social change, social movement media, community media, and communication for peace-building.
